FILIPINA GETS 110 YEARS IN PRISON FOLLOWING MURDER-FOR-HIRE SHOOTING A PROFESSOR IN FLORIDA

Katherine Magbanua, 37, a Filipino-American woman was sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty for her involvement in a murder-for-hire plot that resulted in the shooting death of a university professor in Tallahassee.

Magbanua was sentenced Friday morning to life in prison without probation or parole and two consecutive 30-years prison terms.

According to a 12-person jury, she acted as the contact point between her ex-boyfriend, dentist Charlie Adelson, and the men he allegedly hired to kill Florida State University law professor Daniel Markel in 2014.

Garcia was last sentenced by the court to life imprisonment in 2019.

The brother of Markel's former wife, Adelson, was arrested in April 22 by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is facing first degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and solicitation of murder charges.

Markel was shot inside his car in Tallahassee, Florida on July 18, 2014 and died died the next day. At the time, he was in the process of divorcing Adelson's sister, Wendi.

The accused shooter, identified as Sigfredo Garcia, previously lived with Magbanua and had two children with her.

Magbanua had a previous relationship with Charlie Adelson, and had one worked for Adelson's family's dental office.
