LOOK: “LIBRENG SAKAY” PROGRAM LAUNCHED BY VICE PRESIDENT SARA DUTERTE

Together with the Department of Transportation, the Office of the Vice President launched the "Peak Hours Augmentation Bus Service (PHABS) - Free Ride (Libreng Sakay)" this morning at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange.

Of the five wifi-ready buses for the OVP Free Ride Program, two buses were allocated for their affiliates in Metro Manila, one in Davao City, one in Cebu, and one in Bacolod.

The buses were lent to Vice President Sara Duterte during the election campaign in 2022. The vice president thought they will be more useful if the public commuters can use them for free.

“These were buses that were lent to us during the campaign and pagkatapos ng kampanya, pagkatapos ng election day, wala na silang biyahe, wala na silang ginagawa, nakaparking lang lagi,” Duterte said in her speech during the launching ceremony at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).

“Libreng Sakay” program aims to “provide relief” to Filipinos dependent on public transportation to work, school, and many other places.

“It will support the national government’s program, and at the same time, it is hoped that this meager contribution would translate to daily savings for our public transport riding kababayans,” she said.

It will be a great help to the employees who have to work while bearing the burden caused by the increasing fuel prices and other commodities. The Vice President's help can also be used when face-to-face classes restart. These free rides are a big help to our students.

OVP’s Libreng Sakay program will be implemented in the next six years and, they will try to add more buses to pass through other routes like in the Commonwealth area.

On the other hand, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. earlier approved the extension of the free rides on the Edsa Busway Carousel until the end of this year.
