PHILIPPINES, 5TH PLACER IN THE ASEAN PARA GAMES

The results of the Filipino athletes' campaign were good after they placed fifth in the recently concluded 11th ASEAN PARA Games held in Indonesia.

The Filipino athletes completed the match with 28 gold, 30 silver, and 46 bronze medals, surpassing their best output in the 2009 Kuala Lumpur Games (24-24-26) and more than their 2017 stint (20- 20-29) as well as that of Malaysia.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) congratulated the 144 PARA athletes, 38 coaches, team delegates’ officials, and medical staff.

"Let's be proud of #GalingngAletangFilipino together!” salutes from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

It can be recalled that the APG was postponed twice in 2020 Philippines and 2021 in Vietnam due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Philippines retained their 5th rank at the close of the 11-nation showcase for PARA-athletes where the majority of the 144-athlete contingent participated for the first time at this level since 2017.

"The entire nation has been celebrating the success of our PARA-athletes. It only shows that Filipino athletes are ready to hurdle any challenge, especially when the honor of the country is at stake," said PSC Commissioner Olivia "Bong" Coo.

The 12th ASEAN PARA Games is scheduled to be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from June 3 to 9, 2023.
