QUEEN ELIZABETH II DIES AT 96

"The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon," the Royal Family said in a tweet on Thursday (early Friday, Philippine time).

The queen, Britain’s longest-reigning sovereign and the world's oldest monarch, passed away surrounded by her immediate family at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

Elizabeth has been queen of Britain and more than a dozen other countries since 1952, including Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and earlier this year marked her 70th year on the throne with four days of national celebrations in June.

She came to the throne after the death of her father King George VI on February 6, 1952, when she was just 25.

Queen Elizabeth II, 96, is reportedly under medical supervision as doctors revealed they are concerned of her health earlier today.

Children and grandchildren quickly rushed to Balmoral in order to be with the Majesty's bedside.

According to reports, the world's oldest monarch has been suffering from what Buckingham Palace has called "episodic mobility problems" since the end of last year.

Prince Charles immediately succeeds as King of the United Kingdom after his mother's death on Thursday.

At 73, Charles is the oldest king to to assume the British throne. According to The Guardian, succession plans dictate that Charles will make his first address to the public as head of state and will officially proclaimed as king in the first 24 hours.

The former Prince of Wales is set to decide whether to reign as King Charles II or take another name from his four names - Charles, Philip, Arthur, and George.
