DOME OF JAKARTA ISLAMIC CENTER GRAND MOSQUE COLLAPSES DUE TO FIRE

 The dome of the Islamic Center Grand Mosque in Indonesia's North Jakarta collapsed after a colossal fire.



The Mosque is located at the building complex belonging to Jakarta Islamic Center, a think-tank on Islamic studies and development. 


Based on the report, no casualties were recorded from the collapsed mosque.

The aerial footage obtained by AFP showed grey smoke swallowing the dome with flames while it destroyed the lower parts of the Grand Mosque. 


Dramatic video footage taken by Benny Johnson which was posted on his Twitter account showed how the flames and smoke swallowed the dome.



But in the initial investigation, the police suspect that the fire started from the sparks created when workers tried to cut waterproofing membranes for the dome. The police were still investigating the four workers of the contractor company who were tasked to renovate the mosque. 



"We have discussed the possibility of continuing the renovation... the most important thing is we can use it the mosque again soon," Jakarta's acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono told Metro TV. 


In Indonesian media, firefighters were alerted shortly after 3pm (local time) with ten fire engines being dispatched to the area.
