MARCOS SIGNS LAW FOR THE POSTPONEMENT OF BARANGAY ELECTION 2022

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed the law to postpone the December 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election to the last Monday of October 2023.

The Republic Act 11935 was signed by President Marcos on October 10. All the incumbent barangay and SK officials must serve until their replacements are elected.

The elected officials' terms of office will begin on November 30, 2023, and the next election will be after three years.

Commission on Elections Chairperson George Erwin  Garcia said they would comply with the law as they continue with the preparations for the polls.

The postponement of the election would be an opportunity for the Comelec to continue their voter registration to make sure that they have greater participation of citizens in the election.

The COMELEC will also release an announcement regarding an adjustment of the calendar activities as possible. They will also revisit their existing planned procurement contracts related t the barangay and SK act.
