MAYOR JAVI BENITEZ EXPRESSES DISMAY OVER THE P1.4-M WORTH OF EGGS BURNED IN BACOLOD CITY

Victorias City Mayor Javi Benitez took to social media to expressed dismay over the report that the City Veterinary Office of Bacolod burned worth P1.4 million of eggs it intercepted at the BREDCO Port.
 

 
 
Around 240,000 eggs from Bantayan Island, Cebu were confiscated and burned after "the permit of the shipper has already expired and no other pertinent documents were also presented," said Dr. Maria Agueda de la Torre, city veterinarian in a statement.



The moved is in accordance with the Bacolod and Negros Occidental's joint executive order that safeguards the citizens of the province from avian influenza. 



Meanwhile, Mayor Javi on his social media post expressed regret at seeing thousands of eggs ending up burned in a pit as consumers experienced high prices of the commodity due to a tight supply.


"Ang husto, husto. Ang sala, sala. Pero ang pagkaon nga para sa tawo, dapat para sa tawo.


"Kanugon sang pagsunog sang 240,000 nga itlog o 8,000 trays worth P1.4 M sa Bacolod City. 
 
 





"Tani may mas maayo nga solusyon para diri. Pwede man i-donarsa nagakagutuman. Indi ko kaya maghipos lang, kinahanglan ko ihambal sa inyo tanan ang sentimento ko."




Since last December, the province of Negros Occidental and the Bacolod City government have jointly prohibited the entry of live birds and poultry products such as meat and eggs from areas affected by avian influenza or bird flu, particularly from luzon, Mindanao and the neighboring islands of Panay and Guimaras.
