IRONMAN 70.3 PARTICIPANT IN DAVAO DIES DURING RACE

In a Facebook post, Ironman 70.3 event organizer confirmed that a participant has died in the middle of the race on Sunday.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of a race participant at Ironman 70.3 Davao," the organizers said in a statement.

 

SunStar Davao reported that the participant was a veteran swimming coach “who succumbed to a heart attack during the swim course.”

IRONMAN 70.3 said the athlete was brought to the hospital after being given medical attention during the swim part of the competition.

 

The Davao swim course was 1.9 kilometers long, starting at the Azuela Cove property, going through the Pakiputan straight before continuing its rectangular shape toward the exit transition.

“Our condolences go out to the athlete's family and friends, whom we will continue to support,” IRONMAN 70.3 said.

 

According to its website, IRONMAN 70.3 “offers 30 Age Group Qualifying slots and 25 Extra Slots for Women to the 2023 VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship on August 26th - 27th, 2023 in Lahti, Finland.”
