Denver Pascua: From Doubt to Topnotcher in ChemEng

Denver Pascua, a native of Caloocan City, initially questioned his decision to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at the University of Santo Tomas (UST). However, his perseverance and hard work led him to graduate cum laude in 2022 and achieve a 7th-place ranking in the October 2022 Chemical Engineer Licensure Examination with a rating of 84.50%.

Inspired by his father, an electronics engineer who worked abroad, and a relative who is also a chemical engineer, Denver felt drawn to the field of engineering. He recalled a story about his relative developing a soap formula that was successfully used in the beverage industry. This experience further solidified his desire to pursue a career in engineering.

Unlike many of his peers, Denver was not a gaming enthusiast as a child. Instead, he preferred engaging with documentaries and science fiction shows. His academic strengths in Math and Science, coupled with a consistent record of academic excellence from Grade 3 through Junior High School, led him to choose the STEM strand in Grade 12.

However, upon entering college, Denver encountered challenges. He failed the diagnostic test for his chosen degree program, causing him to doubt his decision. Despite the initial setback and the fact that tuition had already been paid, he decided to persevere. With the support of intelligent friends and classmates, Denver gradually adjusted to college life. Group studies, consistent practice, and problem-solving exercises played a crucial role in his academic progress.

The board exam presented its own set of challenges. Denver faced significant difficulties, even experiencing stress-induced vomiting on the second day. Nevertheless, his dedication and hard work paid off, as he emerged as one of the topnotchers. He attributed his success to his family's unwavering support.
