Gabriela, a women's rights organization, has expressed deep concern over recent revelations made by actress Angeli Khang regarding her experiences filming intimate scenes in Vivamax movies. In an interview with celebrity host Toni Gonzaga, Khang admitted feeling "taken advantage of" by male co-actors, raising serious questions about consent and professional ethics within the entertainment industry.
Sarah Elago, Gabriela's legislative consultant and a former House representative, criticized the alleged abuse, stating, "Angeli Khang's admission of feeling 'taken advantage of' is a clear manifestation of the pervasive exploitation that women continue to face in the film industry." Elago emphasized that such behavior is a gross violation of consent and professional ethics that cannot be tolerated in any workplace, especially one that holds significant influence over societal norms and values.
In response to Khang's allegations, Gabriela has announced plans to address the issue during the upcoming budget deliberations of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). Elago stated, "We will bring these issues to light during the MTRCB's budget hearing and introduce legislative measures to address women's concerns in the local entertainment industry."
Gabriela has also expressed its support for Khang and other women who have endured similar abuses in the industry, stating, "We stand in solidarity with Ms. Khang and all women who have experienced such violations."
