A chef in Dubai has turned to artificial intelligence to create a successful pizza recipe. Spartak Arutyunyan, head of menu development for Dodo Pizza, used OpenAI's ChatGPT to develop a recipe that has become a popular menu item.
The chatbot suggested a unique combination of ingredients, including Arab shawarma chicken, Indian grilled paneer cheese, Middle Eastern Za'atar herbs, and tahini sauce. Despite the unconventional blend, the recipe has proven to be a hit.
While Arutyunyan admitted that he wouldn't have mixed these ingredients himself, he was surprised by the positive outcome. Other AI-generated recipes, such as pizza with strawberries and pasta or blueberries and breakfast cereal, were not as successful.
The use of AI in the culinary world has been met with mixed reactions. Some chefs have found AI to be a helpful tool for generating new ideas, while others have expressed skepticism about its capabilities.
Emily Bender, a linguistics professor at the University of Washington, criticized the use of AI chatbots in the kitchen, arguing that they simply regurgitate existing recipes from the internet.
