Ginebra Dominates Blackwater in Revenge Win

The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel secured a much-needed bounce-back victory over the Blackwater Bossing,112-98, in the ongoing PBA Governor’s Cup on September 10, 2024. This win was especially significant after a previous loss to Blackwater two weeks ago.

The turning point in the rematch was Ginebra's improved defensive strategy against Blackwater's import, George King. In the first half, King had been a dominant force, scoring 19 points. However, Ginebra's defensive adjustments in the second half effectively neutralized King's scoring abilities.

Stephen Holt, Ginebra's versatile player, played a crucial role in limiting King's impact. Holt's tight perimeter defense and timely double teams disrupted King's rhythm, holding him to just two points in the entire second half.

With King's scoring threat neutralized, Ginebra was able to take control of the game. Former league MVP Scottie Thompson showcased his all-around skills, leading the team with a triple-double of 21 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds. Justin Brownlee also contributed significantly with 20 points and 9 rebounds.

Rookie point guard RJ Abarrientos continued to impress, adding 15 points to the scoreboard. Star center Japeth Aguilar chipped in 14 points, further solidifying Ginebra's dominance.

Overall, Ginebra's victory over Blackwater was a result of their improved defensive performance and the standout performances of their key players. This win will undoubtedly boost their confidence as they continue their journey in the PBA Governor's Cup.
