Careless Music CEO and founder James Reid has confirmed that actress Liza Soberano is no longer with the talent management company. The announcement follows a statement released last Saturday indicating that Soberano's contract with Careless had ended on July 29, 2024.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Reid clarified that Soberano's decision to leave was mutual. "It was her decision to leave Careless," he emphasized. Reid, who has been managing himself and other artists since his departure from Viva Artists Agency, noted that his contracts with artists include a "termination for convenience" clause, allowing either party to end the agreement at any time.
When asked about the reasons behind Soberano's departure, Reid explained that their career paths had diverged. "She's more focused on her US career, going to Hollywood, all of that. And we're more focused on the Philippines. Music, local," he said.
Soberano joined Careless in 2022, bringing significant attention to the young and rapidly growing company. Despite her short tenure, Reid expressed his support for Soberano's decision and her future endeavors.
Reid clarified that Soberano had been managing her own career, particularly her US-based projects, with Careless providing support and resources. He also mentioned that Transparent Arts is now her co-management agency in the US.
Reflecting on their working relationship, Reid described it as collaborative rather than hierarchical. "I don't like to see myself as her boss. It's more like I'm an artist that's managing myself and I was helping her with my resources and with my team to help her manage her own career," he said.
While Reid acknowledged that their time together was relatively short, he expressed satisfaction with their partnership and extended his best wishes to Soberano. He also confirmed that she is currently working on producing projects and continuing to audition for roles in Hollywood.
