Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, who evaded a Senate probe for over three months, finally revealed details of her July escape from the Philippines.
In a private meeting with senators, she identified the individual who initiated and facilitated her secret departure. While the senator's identity remains undisclosed, Guo disclosed that the individual convinced her to flee due to perceived threats.
Guo confirmed previous reports that she and her companions, including her "sister" Shiela, fled the Philippines via a series of sea trips. She admitted to using a yacht for part of the journey but said she was unaware of the owner. The group also included Wesley and an Asian woman who only spoke English.
Before the trip, Guo's cellphones were confiscated, and the journey lasted between three and five days. However, during the middle of the trip, Guo expressed regret about her decision to escape. She stated, "I wanted to return... I made a mistake."
The dismissed mayor denied receiving any assistance from Filipino officials or private individuals during her escape. Guo was arrested in Indonesia on September 3 and returned to the Philippines on September 6. She is currently under the custody of the Philippine National Police.
