PAGASA Raises Storm Warnings as Tropical Depression Enteng Intensifies

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued heavy rainfall and wind signal warnings for many areas in Luzon and Visayas as Tropical Depression Enteng slightly intensified on Sunday afternoon.

As of 4 p.m., Tropical Depression Enteng was located 100 kilometers north-northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, packing winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour. The storm was moving north-northwestward at a slower pace of 15 kilometers per hour.

While Enteng is currently offshore, there is a possibility that it may move closer to Luzon, and a landfall cannot be ruled out, according to PAGASA weather forecaster Grace Castañeda.

Due to the effects of the storm, PAGASA has placed many areas under heavy rainfall warnings from Sunday until Tuesday.

Rainfall Warnings:

  •     Sunday to Monday noon:
  •             100-200 mm: Polillo Islands, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, and Samar
  •         50-100 mm: Metro Manila, the rest of CALABARZON, Marinduque, Romblon, Eastern Samar, Biliran, and the northern portion of Leyte

  •         50-100 mm: Batanes, mainland Cagayan, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region and Ilocos Region

In addition to the heavy rainfall, PAGASA also warned that the enhanced southwest monsoon or habagat will bring moderate to intense rainfall in other areas of Luzon and Visayas, especially along the western portions of the islands.
