Samsung Launches Galaxy Quantum 5, a Security-Focused A55 Variant

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Quantum 5, a specialized version of the Galaxy A55 designed exclusively for the South Korean market in partnership with SK Telecom and ID Quantique. The standout feature of the Quantum 5 is its Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) chip from ID Quantique, which significantly enhances security for online banking and sensitive data.

The QRNG chip leverages quantum physics to generate truly random numbers, making encryption and decryption processes more secure by minimizing the risk of external interference and tampering. This extra layer of security, particularly valuable for protecting biometric and password data, sets the Quantum 5 apart from the standard Galaxy A55.

Beyond its enhanced security, the Quantum 5 shares many features with the A55. It boasts a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, Full HD+ resolution, and HDR10+ support. Powered by the Exynos 1480 chipset with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage, the device runs on Android 14 and is promised four major OS updates.

In terms of camera capabilities, the Quantum 5 features a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 5MP macro camera, and a 32MP selfie front-facing camera, all capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps. It also includes stereo speakers, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and an aluminum frame with glass protection on both sides, as well as IP67 dust and water resistance.

The Quantum 5 packs a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging and offers connectivity options such as 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and USB Type-C.

Currently, the Galaxy Quantum 5 is exclusively available in South Korea through SK Telecom at a price of KRW 618,200 (approximately PHP 26,300). It comes in three color options: Awesome Ice Blue, Awesome Lilac, and Awesome Navy. Unfortunately, there are no plans for its availability outside of South Korea at this time.
