A New York priest is facing multiple accusations, including financial mismanagement, after allowing singer Sabrina Carpenter to film a provocative music video inside his church.
Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello was relieved of his pastoral duties at Our Lady of Mount Carmel – Annunciation of Parish in Brooklyn following an investigation launched last year. The probe was initiated after public outcry over Carpenter’s “Feather” music video, which featured scenes filmed inside the church.
The video, released on Halloween 2023, depicts Carpenter dancing around the church at the funeral of men who had attempted to hit on her. One scene shows her posing in front of the altar with a faux coffin bearing a provocative message.
While the music video sparked controversy, it was just one issue that led to Gigantiello’s removal. The investigation also uncovered unauthorized financial transfers to a former staff member of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who is currently under investigation for corruption charges.
Despite the serious allegations, Gigantiello will still be allowed to say Mass with the approval of Bishop Witold Mroziewski, who has been appointed as the church’s administrator.
