Mapua Cardinals Crowned NCAA Champions After 33-Year Drought

Mapua Cardinals End 33-Year Drought, Claim NCAA Title.

The Mapua Cardinals finally broke their 33-year title drought, defeating the College of St. Benilde Blazers, 94-82, in Game 2 of the NCAA men’s basketball finals on Saturday, December 7.

After a heartbreaking loss in the previous season’s finals, the Cardinals stormed back with a dominant performance. Led by Finals MVP Clint Escamis, who scored 18 points, and key contributions from Marc Cuenco (19 points), Lawrence Mangubat (17 points), and Rookie of the Year Chris Hubilla (15 points), Mapua outplayed St. Benilde.

The Cardinals capitalized on the Blazers' turnovers and hot shooting from beyond the arc to build a significant lead. St. Benilde, despite efforts from Justine Sanchez, Tony Ynot, and Season MVP Allen Liwag, couldn’t overcome the deficit.

With this victory, Mapua clinched their sixth overall NCAA title, marking a historic moment for the school and its dedicated fans.
