Actress Neri Naig was released from the custody of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Wednesday night, December 4, following a court order.
The release was confirmed by BJMP spokesperson Inspector Jayrex Joseph Bustinera. The order was issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 112 in Pasay City after Naig's motion to quash the charges against her was partially granted.
Naig was arrested on November 23 and detained at the Pasay City Jail female dormitory for estafa charges related to her endorsement of Dermacare, a controversial dermatological company. She was also accused of violating the Securities Regulation Code by allegedly enticing investments without proper licensing.
Her husband, Chito Miranda, frontman of the band Parokya ni Edgar, has publicly defended Naig, emphasizing that she was merely an endorser and was used to persuade investors.
Naig's arraignment for securities violations has been rescheduled to January 9, 2025, after her legal team filed a motion to quash.
Meanwhile, another celebrity endorser, Rufa Mae Quinto, is still facing a standing warrant of arrest for similar securities violations.
