UP Fighting Maroons Conquer UAAP Season 87, Dethrone La Salle

Manila, Philippines - The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons have once again etched their names in UAAP history. The Maroons have once again claimed the UAAP men's basketball championship, defeating the De La Salle Green Archers 66-62 in a thrilling Game 3.

The championship series was a tightly contested affair, with both teams trading blows throughout the three games. The Maroons were led by the stellar performances of Quentin Millora-Brown, who finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Francis Lopez, who contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds. Season 84 hero JD Cagulangan also played a crucial role, scoring 12 points and being named Finals MVP.

Millora-Brown, a dominant force in the paint, showcased his skills on both ends of the floor, contributing significantly to the Maroons’ victory. Lopez, who had a shaky performance in Game 2, redeemed himself with a clutch three-pointer in the final minutes of Game 3. Cagulangan, the heart and soul of the team, capped off his UAAP career with a Finals MVP award and a championship.

Coach Goldwin Monteverde expressed his gratitude to his players and coaching staff for their hard work and dedication. He highlighted the team’s resilience and ability to overcome adversity throughout the season.

The series was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading leads. However, the Maroons' clutch plays in the final minutes sealed the victory. Lopez's dagger three-pointer and Millora-Brown's crucial free throws proved to be the difference-makers.

The victory marks a significant milestone for the UP Fighting Maroons, who have now cemented their position as one of the top basketball programs in the country. With a talented core of players returning next season, the future looks bright for the Diliman squad.
