- TKO Victory for Zamboanga: Filipina Claims Interim Atomweight Crown in Bangkok
Filipina MMA star Denice Zamboanga has finally reached the peak of ONE Championship, securing the interim Atomweight MMA World Championship with a dominant victory over Alyona Rassohyna at ONE Fight Night 27.
"The Menace" showcased her exceptional skills at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, neutralizing Rassohyna's grappling attempts and delivering a striking clinic throughout the fight. Zamboanga's relentless attack culminated in a second-round TKO, forcing the referee to stop the contest at 4:47 with a barrage of unanswered strikes.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Zamboanga, who has faced numerous setbacks in her quest for the title, including an untimely injury last year that postponed this very bout. However, she persevered, demonstrating the determination and talent that have made her a top contender since 2020.
"It was very emotional for me," Zamboanga shared after the fight. "This is a dream come true, and I'm so grateful for all the support I've received."
With this win, Zamboanga solidifies her position as the number one contender for the undisputed title, currently held by her friend and former training partner, Stamp Fairtex. A title unification bout between the two is anticipated once Stamp recovers from her injury.
"I'm excited to face Stamp and unify the titles," Zamboanga said. "It will be a great fight, and I'm confident that I can come out on top."
Adding to the Filipino success at ONE Fight Night 27, Islay Bomogao secured her second victory in the promotion, defeating Ran Longshu in a muay thai contest at a catchweight of 101 pounds.
Zamboanga's triumph is a testament to her resilience and exceptional fighting abilities. Her performance at ONE Fight Night 27 has undoubtedly cemented her place among the elite atomweights in the world and brought pride to the Philippines.
