- From Nursery Rhyme to Heartbreak Anthem: Dwta & Justin's New Single
Prepare to have your childhood memories reinterpreted with a heavy dose of heartbreak. Bicolana singer-songwriter Dwta and SB19's Justin have teamed up to transform the innocent children's song "Sampung Mga Daliri" (Ten Fingers) into a poignant ballad about lost love and letting go.
Released today, the folk-pop rendition of "Sampung Mga Daliri" explores the painful realization that a loved one is no longer within reach. Dwta's dreamy vocals, grounded by Justin's soulful tone, weave a melancholic tapestry of emotions, contrasting the song's lullaby-like melody with its heart-wrenching lyrics.
The collaboration originated after the two Sony Music Philippines labelmates met at a gig. Inspired by a friend's film class that explored reimagining children's songs, Dwta had initially written the song in 2023. She saw the collaboration with Justin as an opportunity to breathe new life into the track.
"I said then, let's make content or a song. I immediately searched my vault of songs for something that would suit both our voices," Dwta shared during a pre-release TikTok live.
Justin, known for his work with popular P-pop group SB19, expressed his affinity for the song's lullaby-like quality, stating that it aligned with his personal musical preferences.
The duo's performance of "Sampung Mga Daliri" at the 10th Wish Music Awards last January 19th offered a glimpse into the song's emotional depth, further fueling anticipation for its release.
"Sampung Mga Daliri" marks a new chapter for both artists, showcasing their vulnerability and artistic growth. Dwta has been releasing a series of live performances titled "dwta series: Magka-Ibigan," which chronicles the different stages of a relationship. This latest release adds another layer to the narrative, exploring the pain of separation and moving on.
Fans can look forward to a music video and a mini-series inspired by the song, promising a deeper dive into the emotions and story behind this reimagined classic.
