Filipino pool sensation Lee Vann "The Slayer" Corteza has started his 2025 US campaign with a bang, securing the 9-ball championship title at the 40th Turning Stone Classic. Held at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York, the tournament saw Corteza dominate the field, culminating in a thrilling 13-10 victory over defending champion Moritz Neuhausen of Germany.
The Davao City native showcased his exceptional skills throughout the competition, remaining undefeated in all seven matches. He kicked off his campaign with a resounding 9-1 win against Dave Powis of the USA, followed by a series of convincing victories over top players like Joe Smith, Mike Donnelly, Jeremy Sossei, and Jayson Shaw.
Corteza's dominance continued in the final four, where he delivered a masterful 9-0 sweep against Jesse Piercey, setting up a semifinal clash with Neuhausen. Although Neuhausen managed to reach the finals through the one-loss side, Corteza proved too strong, ultimately claiming the championship title.
This victory marks Corteza's second Turning Stone Classic win, adding to his previous triumph in the ninth edition of the prestigious tournament. His impressive performance solidified his position as one of the Philippines' leading cue artists, building on his recent success at the 2024 Las Vegas Open.
