LOS ANGELES – The Dallas Mavericks received another blow as star guard Kyrie Irving was ruled out of Monday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies with a lumbar back sprain.  This latest setback adds to the mounting injury concerns for the struggling team.

ESPN reports that the 32-year-old has a bulging disk in his back and is expected to be sidelined for one to two weeks. Sources indicate that Irving will undergo treatment in the coming days to determine a more precise return-to-play date.

This news comes as the Mavericks are already grappling with the absence of superstar Luka Doncic, who has been out since Christmas Day with a left calf strain.  The team has lost four consecutive games and is desperately trying to stay afloat in the competitive Western Conference.

Irving's absence further depletes the Mavericks' offensive firepower. The former NBA champion is averaging 24.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in 30 games this season. His dynamic scoring ability and playmaking skills have been crucial for the Mavericks, especially with Doncic sidelined.

"It's definitely tough to lose Kyrie, especially with Luka already out," said Mavericks coach [Coach's name]. "But we have to find a way to compete.  We have a lot of talented players on this roster, and it's time for them to step up."

This is not the first time Irving has missed games this season. He was sidelined earlier with a sore shoulder and also missed Friday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers due to illness.
