Duterte's "Media Killing" comment draws international outrage

President-elect Rodrigo Duterte once again hit headlines in the international media over remarks about media killing in the country.

CNN on it website reported, that "the Philippines controversial president-elect has picked a new fight."
During a press conference in unveiling his new cabinet, Duterte said journalists killed on the job in the Philippines were often corrupt," read the lead of CNN's story headlined, "Duterte says killing of corrupt journalist justified."

Washington Post's website said, 'Many slain journalists in the Philippines had been corrupt and had done something to warrant being killed, the country's president-elect said."

The UK based website, the Guardian reported that Duterte said "corrupt journalists were legitimate targets of assassination, as he amped up his controversial anti-crime crusade with offers of rewards for killing drug traffickers.

"Just because you're a journalist you are not exempted from assassination if you're a son of a bitch," Duterte was quoted by France-Presse.

CNN report is accompanied by a infographic, showing the Philippines as the third deadliest country for journalists, after Iraq and Syria.

Recently Duterte has hit the headline in many international organizations for his rape joke to an Australian missionary, who was gang-raped by hostage-takers at the Davao City jail in 1989.

The US-based Committee to Protect Journalists(CPJ) said the remarks"give security officials the right to kill for acts that they consider defamation."

"This is one of the most outrageous statements we have ever heard from a president in the Philippines," said CPJ's Shawn Crispin in Bangkok.
