Freedom of Information through executive order out soon

Manila, Philippines - The much-awaited executive order(EO) on freedom of information (FOI) is expected to release soon, Malacanang said on Sunday, July 3. The freedom of information(FOI) bill is President Rodrigo Duterte's promised during his campaign.

In an interview to Communications Secretary Martin Andanar on dzRB, he said that they are now rushing the EO so that they can have it released immediately.

"When we spoke to the Presiddent during the turnover ceremony at the Philippine National Police, we had the chance to remind him of his promise to the media and to the public. And so, we're drafting it now. We're fine-tuning the executive order, and hopefully we'll be able to announce it this week or next," Andanar said in Filipino.

"This is now being drafted by our lawyers in the legal department of the Presidential Communications Office, and even in the Office of the Executive Secretary," he said.

Andanar added that they are also working on building a presidential task force against media killings. This is despite Duterte's unclear stance on the alarming rate of media killing in the country which create international outbreak.
