Philippine Coastguard received fifth Japan made brand new ship

The Philippine Coast Guard received the fifth Japanese made 44 meter Parola-class Multi-role Response Vessel (MRRV) on August 7, 2017 in South Harbor, Port Area, Manila. BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) was named after the Sukuan Lighthouse in Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

The Philippine government has ordered 10 vessels from Japan through the Maritime Safety Capability Improvement Project (MSCIP) Phase I funded by loan from Japan International Corporation Agency.

The vessel will be use as a rescue vessel within the PCG Districts areas of responsibility (AOR) when the extent of the disaster is beyond the capability of floating assets deployed within the area. Moreover, MRRVs will also helped assist in controlling oil pollution and protection of the maritime environment. The vessels will also enforce applicable maritime laws within the designated AOR, particularly relating to illegal fishing and sea patrol.

Deliveries are expected every quarter until completion of 10 units in 2018.
