Magnitude 8 Earthquake struck South Mexico, tsunami alert - Photos

A huge magnitude 8 earthquake struck off the southern coast of Mexico on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said. The U.S Tsunami warning system says there's a potential of tsunami threat to several central American countries.



It is reported to be the strongest earthquake since a devastating 1985 tremor that flattened swathes of Mexico city were thousands was killed.

As of the posting three people were confirmed dead in Chipas, as the Pacific tsunami warning was raised.

Windows were broken at the airport and power went out several major neighborhood ogf the capital. Around midnight buildings swayed strongly for more than a minute.
