The San Carlos Ecozone is a 405-hectare property, the first to be declared an economic zone in Negros Occidental. Operated by San Julio Realty, Inc., it is envisioned to be a world-class, environment-friendly industrial estate with complimenting residential communities, commercial and recreational facilities, airport, parks, school and other establishments to spur the city's quest to be an economic powerhouse in central Philippines.
One of the City's biggest assets is its energy-sufficiency with the presence of vital power plants. Topping the list is the San Carlos Bioenergy, Inc. (SCBI), a Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) registered company which will build, own and operate an integrated fuel bioethanol distillery and power co-generation facility. It is the first of its kind in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, which takes advantage of favorable weather and the best quality and yield in sugarcane to supply the country's fuel and energy demands.
There is also the 45MW San Carlos Solar Energy Inc. (SACASOL), one of the biggest in the country, came into stream in June 2014 and provides electricity to the entire City.
Also in the pipeline is the 19 MW biomass project of the San Carlos Bio Power Plant which will be built alongside the existing ethanol facility, to further boost the power supply of the city and province.
The 2nd Solar Plant, the SACASUN ( San Carlos Sun Power, Inc.) Is now exporting 59 MW of solar power to the Visayas Grid.
