Clarkson scores 28 for Gilas but falls short vs China, 82-80

 The Philippines came so close to upset China, ended up 80-82 in the men's basketball competition of the 18th Asian Games on Tuesday, 21st August.



China mostly in control the game from 1st to 2nd quarter as Jordan Clarkson struggling to adjust the game. But on the third quarter Clarkson down pour four-three points added a miracle shot from Paul Lee and Christian Standhardinger.

Paul Lee throws a closer three with four seconds left, but unable to shot the target allowing the Chinese to take the win.

China built a 27-15 lead in the early of second period, but Paul Lee and Clarkson combined to cut the lead in just six, 31-25. Stanley Pringle and Clarkson then hit the triple each in the last minute moving closer the lead 31-36.

China then again tried to pull away the lag in the fourth period 66-59 before start. A triple by Pringle cut it to 66-62, but China scored six straight to again built a a double digit lead. At 4:30 remaining, a triple by Erram and a drive by Pringle cut the lead 71-74. Then Paul took the perfect time to released the ball and fired it on downtown triple, tying it at 74 on 3:35 left. 

At 1:40 left, Pringle did the daredevil drive restoring Philippines three-points gap with 1:26 left. Zhao's drive tied the game to 80 and a miss from Clarkson and Stanhardinger on the follow-up kept it tied before Zhao finishes the lead back to China with two points.

Jordan Clarkson performed 28 points, Christian Standhardinger 18, Stanley Pringle 14, Paul Lee 10 and Poy Erram for 6 points. While China's Zhou Qi debut 25 points, Wang Zhelin 13, Abudushalamu 12, Zhao Rui 11 and Ding Yanyuhang 7.
