Rescuers searched on Tuesday for the survivors and bodies in the Italian port city of Genoa. Helicopter footage on Twitter showed trucks and cars stranded on either side of the 80-metre long collapsed section of the bridge.

According to report, violent storms were partly to blame for the disaster. Maintenance work was underway at the time of the bridge collapsed. A bridge crane had been installed to allow the work to be carried out, CNN reported.
