Netizens lauded Marikina City government for using modular tents for evacuees

Due to flood brought by nonstop monsoon rain in Metro Manila, Saturday, August 11,  thousands of families fled to evacuation centers especially in Marikina City. Netizens lauded Marikina City disaster preparedness in terms of sheltering the evacuees.

Families took shelter in modular tents prepared by the Marikina City government - a far cry from the usual evacuation center across the Philippines. They used modular tents to protect the families privacy, especially women and children, according to the city government.

According to the Marikina official website, those tents are handled by Rescue 161, an emergency response unit under the city government. The tents can comfortably accommodate a family of 6.

ABS-CBN reported that around 18,534 residents in Marikina City were forced to evacuate as the floods rose.
