A potential supertyphoon could possibly enter PAR by Wednesday

PAG-ASA - A super typhoon could possibly hit Batanes and Cagayan area as it will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility later this week. An international name Mangkhut is expected to enter PAR on Wednesday night or Thursday then it would be renamed to Ompong.

Mangkhut is packing a maximum sustained winds of 140 kph and gusts of up to 170 kph. Luzon would experienced scattered downpour and thunderstorm including Visayas and Mindanao areas.

PAGASA categorize a super typhoon if a weather system has the maximum sustained winds of 220 kph.

ABS-CBN reported that a very strong winds and heavy rains would affect the areas of Cagayan and Northern Isabela and the province of Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and the Batanes Island group.
