Imelda Marcos faces arrest after failing to appear in court

The 89-year-old former first lady of the Philippines Imelda Marcos faces seven counts of grafts for using her position to maintain Swiss bank accounts during the regime of her husband, former President Ferdinand Marcos, the Sandiganbayan 5th Division said.



She was known for her lavish lifestyle collection of shoes, now facing a jail sentence of between six and 11 years for each count of graft.

The court's decision came after 27 years after the case was first filed. An arrest warrant has been filed after she failed to show in court for her corruption trial, according to a report.

However, a member of the Philippine House of Reprsentatives, will be given 30 days to explain her absence, according to the source who has the jurisdiction over the case.

Marcos can apply for bail while appealing the decision. Meanwhile, Marcos is currently a member of the House of representatives, is running for a governor post next year.
