Filipina Author Bagged Disney Deal for Streaming '29 Dates'

A book '29 Dates' scores another win for Asian American representation after "Crazy Rich Asians" success. The book has been chosen by Disney for their exclusive streaming.

29 Dates is written by The New York Times' Filipina author Melissa de la Cruz. The book is all about a sixteen-year-old Korean exchange student Ji-su Kim who moves to the United States. Academic pressure set set Ji-su up with several seon (matchmaker) date to meet appropriate young men from Seoul in San Francisco, a one step closer to a greener life to please her parents ambition.

There comes a time when she skips out on a date and spend time with friends, then her parents shipped off her to private school in San Francisco.

The book has been compared similarly to Jenny Han's "To All the Boy's I've Loved Before," that most probably tell the story of detailed Korean life.

29 Dates would be the second film that will boost Asian actors on screen and it's really empowering. De La Cruz upcoming projects include the adult domestic suspense thriller The Birthday Girl for Dutton and the graphic novel Gotham High featuring DC high school's entertainment.
