HIV-AIDS cases in Negros Oriental increasing

The Provincial HIV-AIDS monitoring team revealed the increased in numbers from 20 cases in 2015 there are now about 50 individuals who have been affected by Human Immuno-deficiency Virus-Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome cases in Negros Oriental.



The number has more than doubled during the last two years, Provincial HIV-AIDS Coordinator Dagle cited the data that shows 48 males having sex with and the two got it from male having sex with women.

The provincial government of Negros Oriental provides full assistance to HIV-AIDS victims by giving free supply of needed drugs and medicines, counseling and testing every six months, including periodic follow-ups, Dagle quoted as she told PIA.

The province had allocated P1 million budget from the five percent Gender and Development (GAD) fund, were a portion of the budget goes to the information drive of the program. 

HIV targets the immune system and weakens people's defense system against infections and some types of cancer. The virus destroys and impairs the function of immune cells, infected individuals gradually become immunodeficient.
