Maria Ressa surrendered and posted bail to Pasig city regional court

Rappler's President and CEO Maria Ressa directly appears to Pasig Regional Trial Court Branch 265 to post bail, which was set at 60,000 PHP after a warrant was issued for her arrest.


Ressa who spend several weeks outside the country to receive multiple awards for her company confirms that the warrant has already been issued under her name.

"Our lawyer have verified. A warrant of arrest was issued,"Ressa, who had just landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, said on Rappler's Twitter account.

The warrant was signed by Judge Danilo Buemio on November 28, 2018 and transmitted to the station commander of the Pasig City Police Station. Maria Ressa has been charged in violation to section 255 of the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997. 

She also said that she is holding the government accountable for calling her a criminal.

"We need to hold government to account, and part of the reason I'm here is precisely that," she said. "I'm not a criminal but I've been fingerprinted like a criminal. We feel that we did not get due process," theguardian reported.
