SSS Members Who Lost Jobs Could Claim Php10K Unemployment Monthly Benefit Under New Law

Here's a good news for all SSS members. According to the Republic Act 11199 (Social Security Act of 2019) which was signed by President Duterte into law last week, SSS members who lose their jobs could apply now for unemployment assistance, Senator Richard Gordon who was the primary author of the said law said.



The new law aims to provide fresh start to all SSS members who have lost their jobs by applying for unemployment insurance or involuntary separation benefits while they are still looking for a job.

“For the first time in the country’s history, meron na ngayong (there is now an) unemployment insurance. It will start with two months, at least meron kang P10,000 a month if you had been paying contributions under the maximum salary credit. For two months, makakapaghanap ka ng trabaho (while looking for work),” he said.


How to avail? 

SSS member must have paid at least 36 monthly contribution and should not be more than 60 years old. The law stipulates that the member should have made monthly contributions within the 18-month period prior to the separation or involuntary unemployment.

Under the Section 14-B of RA 11199, the member who submit himself involuntarily unemployed is entitled to 50% of his average monthly salary credit for a maximum of 2 months only.

“It will allow you to look for another job. While hindi ka pwedeng magrelax at kailangang maghanap ka agad ng trabaho (You have to find work fast) because you can only get a maximum of two months, you will have something for your expenses,” Gordon, chairman of the Committee on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises, stressed.

The unemployment benefit will be based on the monthly salary credit, those paying maximum will received Php10,000, while those who are paying less for sure they will get the desired amount based on their monthly salary credit. 

The unemployment benefits could only claim once every three years in order to avoid misuse of the funds.
