University of the Philippines improves position in QS World University Rankings

University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman significantly improved its standing in the QS World University Rankings 2020 released on Wednesday. UP climbs 28 notches from its 384th spot last year, placing the state university to 356th spot according to the latest edition of QS WUR.


UP is the only university among the 16 Southeast Asian institutions in the upper half of the list.

The QS World University Rankings rate the top tertiary institutions around the world against several indicators, which includes:

1. Academic reputation - 40%
2. Employer reputation - 10%
3. Faculty-student ration - 20%
4. Citations per faculty - 20%
5. International faculty ration - 5%
6. International student ration - 5%

Other Philippine Universities in the 2020 rankings include Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) in the 601-650 ranking; as well as University of Sto. Tomas (UST) and De la Salle University (DLSU), both in 801-1000 spot.

Three universities in the United States topped the world rankings, first is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), second is the Stanford University and the third is the Harvard University.
