Negros Occidental bans live pigs from entering the Province

Negros Occidental has banned the entry of live hogs and pork products into its territory to protect its livestock and meat processing industries from the dreaded African swine fever (ASF).

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson signed the Executive Order No. 19-40 that temporarily bans live pigs, pork, pork products and byproducts including canned goods of pork origin originating from, processed, or manufactured in Luzon from entering into the Province of Negros Occidental for a period of ninety days.

ASF virus is not considered a human threat. However, it is fatal to swines who contract the virus.

The Department of Agriculture meanwhile confirmed that ASF was the cause of swine deaths in Rizal and Bulacan last month.
