Folded umbrellas now allowed on hand-carry baggage

The Department of Transportation has announced that foldable umbrellas are now allowed in both carry-on and checked baggage.

"The Department of Transportation on Sunday announced it will be easing the prohibition on the carriage of folded umbrellas in cabin and checked baggage," OTS said in its Facebook post.

The policy was made due to public clamor to allow carriage of folded umbrellas in both cabin and checked baggage. Since then, all types of umbrellas were originally considered "a prohibited item for carry-on baggage because they have sharp and pointed components," the office of Transport Security said.

However, umbrellas with pointed end are still prohibited to be brought on planes as part of your hand luggage.
