Would you believe it a dengue can be transmitted through sex?
It was confirmed that a first case of dengue spread by sex in Spain. Spanish health authorities confirmed a case of a man spreading dengue through sex which everyone thought to be transmitted only by mosquito bite.
It started with a man who has a partner who picked up the virus from a mosquito bite during a trip in Cuba. The dengue infection was confirmed in September and the doctor were bubbled with questions how this strange case happened. The man didn’t even had a travel to a country where the disease, which causes severe flu. Symptoms like fever, headache and other body aches are common.
“His partner presented the same symptom as him but lighter around 10 days earlier, and he had previously visited Cuba and the Dominican Republic,” said Susan Jimenez in Madrid Region’s public health department.
In a sperm analysis found out that it carried out not only dengue but a virus which circulates in Cuba.
“An analysis of their sperm was carried out and it revealed that not only did they have dengue but that it was exactly the same virus which circulates in Cuba,” said Jimenez.
An email sent to Agence France-Presse(AFP) ,“To our knowledge, the first sexual transmission of the dengue virus among men who have sex with men” said by Stockholm-based European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC),who monitors health and disease in Europe.
According to Jimenez, a “likely” case of sexual transmission of dengue between a man and a woman was the subject of a recent scientific in South Korea.
