Joker Tops $1 Billion Mark Worldwide

It's no joke, the first R-rated movie 'The Joker' earned more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office, according to Forbes.

The dark drama based on The Clown Prince of Crime, starring Joaquin Phoenix is entering the weekend with earnings of around $998 million worldwide. So today it is expected that Joker passes the $1 billion mark in global grosses.

The billion-dollar films so far that have ever produced in 2019 include Aquaman, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, Aladdin and Spider-Man:Far From Home.

The Joker is not a traditional superhero movie, it was something that comic book fans were initially skeptical of. They wants the fans to continue to ask questions about it.

However amidst success, the movie also generated  controversy surrounding it before the movie was released on theater. Many thought that the controversy was going to have a negative effect on ticket sales. But the controversy seemed to be a huge helped, ended up being the best publicity The Joker could have ever received.  

The Joker, directed by Todd Phillips, earned critical acclaim at its debut at the Venice Film Festival in late August, it won the Golden Lion award at the festival and was again applauded at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
