Twenty one persons were charged before the Department of Justice for alleged game-fixing and point-shaving by Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) execs.
A total of 17 counts of betting, multiple counts of game-fixing and points shaving as defined and penalized under Section 1 and 3 of Presidential Decree (PD) 483 as amended by PD 1602 had been filed against 21 individuals including three Chinese nationals, identified through their aliases as 'Mr. Sung','Kein," and 'Emma'.
Among those charged were Soccskargen Marlins team owner Kevin Espinosa and players Serafin Matias, EJ Avila, Niño Dionisio, Jake Diwa, Ezequiel Biteng, Ricky Morillo, Jerome Juanico, Matthew Bernabe, Julio Magbanua, Abby Santos, John Patrick Rabe, Ryan Regalado, Janus Lozada, and Joshua Alcober.
According to the complaint, the persons involved are working for the scheme to rig the result of the game.
