The public are warned against malicious online Christmas and New Year greetings

The team of cyber security expert issued a warning on Monday for possible online fraudulent Christmas and New Year greetings sent on Facebook messenger this holiday season.

Cyber security Philippines CERT, a non-profit computer security team advised the public to be careful in opening the sent greetings via messenger that will direct users to malicious websites and expose their device data.

“Careful with opening greeting notification via messenger this New Year. Better yet – before opening one, confirm first with your friend, family, and relatives if they indeed sent one,” it said in a Facebook post.

The group advised those who have accidentally clicked on the links to change the passwords of their social media accounts and online banking accounts. It also recommended to reset their browsers and update anti-malware and scan their device.
