100-year-old playboy tortoise retires after having so much sex to saved his entire species

This 100-year-old tortoise named Diego is retiring after using his impressive libido for so long to help save his species from extinction.

Fifty year ago his species were only just a dozen of female and a two male, but through the efforts of Diego he raised his generation to-up-to a hundred times more.

Diego is believed to be 100 years old is returning to the wild in Española, part of the Galagos Islands.

"He's contributed a large percentage to the lineage that we are returning to Espanola," Jorge Carrion, the park's director, told AFP. "There's a feeling of happiness to have the possibility of returning that tortoise to his natural state."

“About 1,800 tortoises have been returned to Espanola and now with natural reproduction we have approximately 2,000 tortoises,” Carrion added.

Scientist believe that as of the current population of tortoise in Española, Diego is well-deserved retirement.

The Galapagos Islands are one of the world's premier destinations for wildlife viewing, and were visited by Charles Darwin as he worked on the theory of evolution.
