64-year-old senior high student inspires netizens for her determination

For one Filipino single mother, it's never too late to go back to school. Serna Tumabini, 64, has became an inspiration to many after she decided to continue her senior high despite of her age. 


This Facebook post from Gesa Ortega really inspired people when she shared a photo of her mother doing school work at home. According to Gesa, her mom was very happy and excited when she enrolled to a night class program for senior high. 

She recalled that her mother was born and raised from a poor family, were she wasn't able to finish high school after got married at a very young age. Her husband passed away and Serna had to raise all her 7 children on her own sweat. 

Life wasn't easy for Serna that she have to work hard to give her children a life they deserve. She prepared and sold Filipino food, took some extra job by accepting laundry and do other jobs that could increase her daily payout.

When her children Gesa and Maria Cherryl finally graduated from college and been able to get a job for themselves, now it's time for them to support their mother for her dream. 






Gesa described how motivated and excited her mother on her studies because "Education knows no age," Gesa said.


"Seeing my mom doing her assignment, seryoso talaga siya, very dedicated to learn. Minsan pa nga ay nadadamay pa ako sa mga assignment niya," She added.

“Sobrang excited niyang magkuwento tungkol sa kanilang naging klase. Nakikita talaga namin kung gaano siya ka-happy. Being in school and experience the life of a student really keeps her going,” Gesa proudly shared her mom's experienced on class.

She added that sharing her mom's story would help inspire people who are hesitant to go back to school due to age or whatever reason they have.
