Disabled boy dies in China while father in virus quarantine sparked outrage online

A disabled teenager died on Wednesday, a week after his father and brother were placed in quarantine due to coronavirus infection.

The father was able to post on Chinese social media platform Weibo appealing for help and explaining that his son had been left alone without food or water.


According to reports, the boy was said to have cerebral palsy, who needed all day and night care. The boy's mother died shortly after he was born and with no one else to care for him. Yan Cheng, 16, who could not speak, walk or eat by himself was entrusted to his relatives was reportedly fed twice during this time.


The story went viral and sparked outrage online, where authorities in Hubei was being criticised while the investigation is carried out into the boy's death. 



More than 20,000 people in China have been infected by the coronavirus, with the death toll reaching 425.
