Hashimoto created the "Konami Code," a button-pressing sequence on Nintiendo Entertainment System controller, that gives advantage to players in game Contra.
It was originally appeared in 1986 NES port of the arcade Gradius because Hashimoto realized the difficulty as players go through a high level.
However, he forgot to remove the code, and it made its way into the final game that shipped to consumers.
He reused it in 1988's Contra to give the player additional lives, which is where the code gained global popularity.
