COVID-19 may cause damage to men's testicles, doctors warn

Male patients of COVID-19 are urge to take fertility tests upon recovery, because doctors claim that new coronavirus may cause damage to a man's testicles.

Professor Li Yufeng and his team at the Centre for Reproductive Medicine recently warned that patients can also suffered from testicle inflammatory. Although there is no other study  yet to prove his claim, but medics in Wuhan also suggested that coronavirus can affect the production of man's sperm cells and the formation of male sex hormones.

"Therefore, for men who have had the infection, especially those who need to reproduce, it is best to undergo relevant fertility tests, such as sperm quality and hormone level tests, upon recovery to detect possible problems as soon as possible,"the Daily Mail report wrote.

According to experts, majority of ACE2 which have found in human organs and lungs are also abundant in man's testes.

Doctors in Wuhan also cited a situation during the SARS outbreak in 2002, when they found "serious immune system damage" in the male patients testicles.

Although doctors said they did not detect the SARS coronavirus in male patients' testicles, still they don't want to rule out the possibilities that it could cause infertility.

“It is theoretically speculated that new crown infection may cause testicular damage, affecting sperm production and androgen synthesis," the research added.
